Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; Computational Linguistics; Text/Corpus Linguistics

Call Deadline: 15-May-2014

Meeting Description:

'The Value of Language' is a one-day users' conference whose main theme is the value of language: value created by language products, language services, linguistic expertise, linguistic research, etc.

Users of language services and products will demonstrate how they actually use a language service or product and how they thereby create value for themselves, their organisation, society, etc.

Exhibition:

The conference programme includes an exhibition where developers and suppliers of language services and products will offer additional information at their stands.

Target Group:

“The Value of Language” is meant for everyone who has a professional interest in language services and products, would like a better insight into their use, and wishes to get a lot more out of them.

The conference venue is the KU Leuven Brussels Campus (Warmoesberg 26, 1000 Brussels). It is within walking distance of Brussels-Central train station.

“The Value of Language” is an initiative by De Taalsector in association with KU Leuven’s Brussels Campus (HUB), its academic partner.

Call for Papers:

“The Value of Language” provides the opportunity for you, the user, to show in full exactly what you do with the language service or product or language-related expertise you have purchased.

Added Value:

It is alright if your presentation is technical, as long as you show exactly how you create added value for yourself, your organisation, your processes, society, etc., by using the service, product or expertise you have acquired.

Demonstrations of creative forms of reuse, recycling and even atypical use of existing language products and technology are also welcome. You may even have ideas for new applications and new technology.

The conference is also the right place to examine the use of language-related methods, concepts and other intangibles such as deontological codes, quality labels and standards.

The conference will focus especially on the use of language services and products that improve quality, safety, security and comfort, reduce costs, optimise production processes, reduce the time to market and improve the user’s economic or social position.

“The Value of Language” also provides a forum for users where they can show how they create value by means of insights drawn from (applied) linguistic research.

“The Value of Language” offers a welcome to every possible user of every possible language service and product. The conference programme will be arranged thematically depending on the contributions submitted.

Give Shape to Your Contribution:

Your contribution may take the form of a presentation, demonstration, workshop, conversation or panel discussion, and may be of any length.

You can submit your proposal or a summary of your contribution in English, French, Dutch or German. You may present your contribution at the conference in any European language.

Send your submission by e-mail to info at thevalueoflanguage.eu
We shall get in touch with you soon afterwards.

For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.
