Description:

Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, University of Cambridge is offering PhD studentship in Philosophy of Language, Semantics and Pragmatics. 

Start Date: 1 October 2014.

Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD position on a research project ‘Expressing the Self: Cultural Diversity and Cognitive Universals’, funded by The Leverhulme Trust offered at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, University of Cambridge. 

Requirements:
The applicants must have a good Master’s degree (equivalent of first-class distinction) in a relevant area of linguistics (semantics, pragmatics), or philosophy of language, completed by 30 September 2014. For further information see:

Knowledge of one of the following languages would be an advantage but is not essential: Amharic, Japanese, Korean, Thai.

The grant covers university fees (including overseas fees if applicable) and maintenance (£13,500 p.a.) for the period of three years. The successful applicant will commence the PhD course in October 2014 and will work with Professor Kasia M. Jaszczolt (Principal Investigator) and Dr Minyao Huang (Research Associate).
