Meeting Description:

LLL’s Young Researchers Conference (UMR 7270 CNRS – BNF)
University of Tours (France)
26-27 March 2014

The Young Researchers of the LLL (Laboratoire Ligérien de Linguistique, UMR 7270 CNRS - BNF) are organising a conference in March on the topic ''Data and Theory'' with guest speaker Tobias Scheer. All young researchers (masters students, PhD students, young doctors) are welcome to participate.

Conference Theme: Data and Theory

The issue of the nature of linguistic data along with the principles to be used for the constitution of these data has become central in recent years, and this is demonstrated by the development of corpus linguistics. However, the data are often interpreted through the prism of a particular theory, which can lead us to wonder if doing research in a given theoretical background might influence the collection and interpretation of the data. Conversely, can data impose the application of a certain theory?

The reflexion which we propose to conduct during this conference will focus on the relationship between data and theory, as this relationship is essential to linguistic analysis.

Guest speaker: Tobias Scheer, Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis, Laboratoire CNRS UMR 7320 Bases, Corpus, Langage (BCL)

2nd Call for Papers:

We invite young researchers (master students, PhD students and young doctors) to submit abstracts on the interconnection between data and the analysis of these data within a given theory. The communication may focus on the methods of collecting and organising data, the way to interpret these data, how data can influence a theory or how a theory can influence data.

Submissions:

Anonymised abstracts (in French or in English) should not exceed two pages including references and should be emailed as a pdf or word file at the following address:

contact.lll2015 at gmail.com

In the body of the message, please indicate:
Name:
Title of the communication:

Communications will be 20-minute oral presentations followed by a 10-minute discussion.
