Meeting Description:

The workshop aims at bringing together linguists and philosophers to discuss a conception of linguistics that conceptualizes languages as abstract objects. Adopting this framework provides two advantages: It allows linguists (1) to separate the study of language from the study of linguistic knowledge and (2) to overcome the limitations of nominalism and conceptualism.

Call for Papers:

The deadline for the submission of abstracts has been extended to January 12, 2015.

We invite contributions from linguists and philosophers addressing problems such as the abstractness of grammatical structure, the nature of linguistic objects, the status of linguistically necessary truths, and the status of linguistic universals, among others.

Abstracts of 250-300 words, prepared for blind review, should be submitted by January 12, 2015 (extended deadline) to Martin.neef at tu-bs.de (linguistics) or Christina.Behme at msvu.ca (philosophy). Notification of acceptance will be sent by January 31, 2015.
