Grammar and Text: Crossing borders
Lisbon, 2-4 July 2015

The relationship between grammar and text/speech can be considered as a convergence space. It is therefore possible to start from local linguistic phenomena to better understand the texts/speeches. But it is also conceivable to start from textual/discursive configurations to better understand the functioning of language from different points of view - semantic, pragmatic, morphosyntactic, enunciative - either from a synchronic or diachronic perspective. Both routes can be enhanced in a didactic approach.

The 4th International Conference on Grammar and Text - GRATO 2015 aims to explore this border crossing, as explained in the following thematic axes:

1. From textual/discursive configurations to linguistic forms and constructions
2. From linguistic forms and constructions to textual/discursive configurations
3. Didactic perspectives on Grammar and Text

Giving priority to work that fit explicitly in one of these axes, GRATO 2015 will provide a broad reflection that can already anticipate questions such as the following:

- Which theoretical frameworks and methodologies enable the convergence between grammar and text/speech?
- How to think the constitution of corpora when it is intended to address the intersection between grammar and text/speech?
- What can a downward analysis that goes from a social to a linguistic level reveal about the functioning of grammar and texts/speeches?
- In what ways may the linguistic and textual/discursive configurations highlight the potentialities of language?
- What is the relevance of local grammatical phenomena to the organisation of texts/speeches?
- To what extent may the grammatical and textual/discursive approaches contribute to a better understanding of the praxeological and gnosiological continuum that characterizes linguistic activity?

Selected papers will be considered for publication in a forthcoming volume of the Estudos Linguísticos / Linguistic Studies journal.

Call for Papers:

Type of participation and abstract submission:

Three types of participation are planned:

- Coordinated session
- Paper
- Poster

Each participant may submit a maximum of:

- A single-authored paper or poster and a co-authored paper or poster
- Or two co-authored papers or posters

Proposals for coordinated sessions, papers and posters must be explicitly subordinated to one of GRATO 2015 thematic axis. Abstracts may be submitted in one of the conference languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.

Format:

Proposals for papers and posters should contain:

- Title
- Name(s) of author(s)
- Affiliation
- Thematic axis in which they enroll
- 5 keywords (max.)
- 300-500 words abstract with explicit objectives, concepts and theoretical framework(s)
- 5 references (max.)

Proposals for coordinated sessions comprise 3 communications and shall include:

- Title
- Names of coordinator and authors
- Affiliation
- Thematic axis in which they enroll
- 5 keywords (max.)
- Abstracts of each paper (one of them authored by the coordinator); each abstract (200 words max., excluding references maximum of 5) shall state how it contributes to the coordinated session, explaining objectives, concepts and theoretical framework(s)

Each paper will be given 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Each coordinated session will have a total duration of 90 minutes. All abstracts must be anonymous and match the following format: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing.
