Meeting Description:

The 2014 Annual Meeting of the Linguistics Association of Great Britain will be held at The Queen's College, University of Oxford from Monday 1 to Friday 5 September.

Henry Sweet Lecture 2014: Angelika Kratzer (University of Massachusetts Amherst)
'The semantics of embedding and the syntax of the left periphery' 

Linguistics Association Lecture 2014: Adam Albright (MIT)
'Generalizing phonological patterns with phonetic and featural biases'

Special Events:

Workshop on the Semantics of Embedding and the Syntax of the Left Periphery

This workshop, organised by Angelika Kratzer and David Adger, will be held in conjunction with Angelika Kratzer's Henry Sweet Lecture on 2 September 2014. 

Workshop on Learning Biases in Natural and Artificial Language Acquisition

This workshop, organised by Adam Albright and Andrew Nevins, will be held in conjunction with Adam Albright's Linguistics Association Lecture on 5 September 2014. 

Language Tutorial on Armenian

There will be a Language Tutorial on Armeninan (Armenian, Indo-European; Armenia), given by Bert Vaux (University of Cambridge) on 3 and 4 September 2014. 

LAGB Postgraduate Summer School

This new addition to the LAGB Annual Meeting programme will provide postgraduate students with the opportunity to attend masterclasses in linguistics, receive training opportunities, meet linguists and socialise with other postgraduate students from across the UK. The one-day LAGB Summer School will take place on 1 September 2014. This event is co-organised by the LAGB Committee and the LAGB Student Committee. 

LAGB Education Committee Session

The LAGB Education Committee will hold a two-hour session on grammar teaching for English and foreign languages. 

Call for Papers:

The LAGB welcomes submissions on any topic in the field of linguistics; papers are selected on their (perceived) merits, and not according to their subject matter or theoretical framework.

We particularly welcome papers from areas of linguistics that have not been well represented in previous meetings in order to capture the diversity of linguistics research currently undertaken in the UK and beyond.

All abstracts will be blind-peer-reviewed by an international committee of reviewers. Both members and non-members are invited to offer papers for the meeting. The length for papers delivered at the LAGB 2014 meeting is 20 minutes (plus 10 minutes discussion).

The deadline for submissions is Friday 28 March 2014. Notification of acceptance will be made in May 2014.

Call for Themed Sessions:

As well as individual abstracts, we encourage groups of speakers to submit a set of abstracts for a themed session (or panel) on any linguistic subject of their choice. Such groups will normally take up a whole session of the programme. Sessions should ideally consist of five presentations (although sessions of three or six presentations will be considered).

Convenors of themed sessions should send a brief synopsis of the merits of the themed session (two pages max) to the LAGB President, Ad Neeleman (a.neeleman at ucl.ac.uk). Convenors must be members of the LAGB. One contact for the whole session should be provided. All the abstracts for themed sessions will be considered together, as a group, by the reviewers. However, individual papers will be judged on their own merits and may be accepted for presentation in the general session if the themed session is not accepted as a whole.

Abstracts for themed sessions should be submitted individually using Easychair to facilitate the anonymous review process. They can be submitted either by the session convenor or the author(s), but should be clearly marked as belonging to the themed session using the title for the themed session.
