Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: SCSU's department of World Languages and Literature seeks a versatile teacher/scholar to teach courses in TESOL, Bilingual Education, and Applied Linguistics (graduate and undergraduate) and additional course(s) in Spanish. Candidate must be committed to teaching within a vibrant/demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment, and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring and research with graduate and undergraduate students. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service. Nominal teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester.

Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct creative activity/research in their area of expertise. These activities include, but are not limited to, research leading to publication of books and/or articles in academic and professional journals, performances in the fine and performing arts, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Language, Literacy, and Culture, Bilingual Education, or a related discipline is expected by time of appointment. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish (other languages will be considered). Candidate must provide evidence of: ability to teach applied linguistic courses at the college level, ability to teach Spanish (or another world language), teaching effectiveness and a highly interactive teaching style at the undergraduate and graduate level, and ability to engage in meaningful scholarship, leading to conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability, interest, and willingness to be a TESOL generalist; that is, to teach a variety of TESOL courses, in particular: Literacy Development for English Learners (ELs), Assessment and ELs, Computer Assisted Language Learning, TESOL Methods and Curriculum Development, Content-based Instruction for ELs. Evidence of successful training and experience teaching Spanish language at the beginning and intermediate levels. Ability to teach a course in Spanish linguistics. A preference is placed on proficiency in Spanish, however a strong candidate in TESOL and another foreign language may be considered for position.
