Meeting Description:

A 1.5-day workshop titled 'The Prosodic Hierarchy in a Typological Perspective' will be held at Stockholm University, Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism, (Södra Husen, hus D, room D389), on March 14–15, 2014.

The workshop begins at 13.00 on Friday March 14.

We will discuss issues relating to the definitions of the categories in the prosodic hierarchy, as well as how these categories interact with e.g. syntax and information structure. We are happy to announce the following invited speakers:

Daniel Büring (Syntactic embedding and prosodic recursion)
Laura Downing & Maxwell Kadenge (Motivating Prosodic Stems in Shona)
Emily Elfner (The status of intermediate phrases in Connemara Irish)
Caroline Féry (Sentence Prosody: Align or Match?)
Chris Golston (Prosodic Movement)
Fatima Hamlaoui & Kriszta Szendrői (A flexible approach to the syntax-phonology mapping of intonation phrases: Evidence from Bàsàa and Hungarian)
Sam Hellmuth (Prosodic boundary marking as disjunction)
Shinichiro Ishihara (On Match constraints)
Marina Vigário (What are prosodic constituents and recursive domains?)

In the evening of March 14 we will have dinner together.

Participation in the workshop is free (but we will need to ask for 300 SEK for participation in the dinner).

If you would like to join us, please send an email to sara.myrberg at su.se no later than March 3.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
