Call for papers for a volume on Syntactic Variation in Insular Scandinavian to be edited by Höskuldur Thráinsson, Caroline Heycock,  Zakaris Svabo Hansen and Hjalmar P. Petersen and published in the Ohio State University Press series Studies in Germanic Linguistics.

The publisher and the editors:
The Ohio State University Press is planning to publish a volume on “Syntactic variation in Insular Scandinavian” in the newly establised series Studies in Germanic Linguistics, edited by Michael T. Putnam and B. Richard Page. The editors of the volume will be Höskuldur Thráinsson (University of Iceland), Caroline Heycock (University of Edinburgh), Zakaris Svabo Hansen (University of the Faroe Islands) and Hjalmar P. Petersen (University of the Faroe Islands). 

The purpose of the volume:
The purpose of this volume is to give a descriptively and theoretically interesting overview of recent work on syntactic variation in Insular Scandinavian. 

The requirements:
To fulfill the purpose of the volume we are seeking papers on Icelandic and/or Faroese that are based on original data, e.g. collected through the authors’ own field work or by corpora studies. The papers also have to make a theoretically interesting contribution in some fashion, e.g. to syntax, comparative linguistics, sociolinguistics, variation studies, language contact, research methodology, etc.

The procedure and time plan:
In this call for papers we are soliciting abstracts. The abstract should not be more than two pages long (12p, single spaced Times New Roman), including examples and references. It should describe the kind of data that the paper is based on and how or why it is theoretically interesting. The editors of the book will then select the appropriate number of abstracts (in cooperation with the series editors) and notify the authors, asking for the submission of papers. The papers will then be sent to the series editors, who will find reviewers, etc. 

The time plan is as follows:
April 1, 2014:	Submission of abstracts to the editors (to hoski at hi.is).
May 1,  2014:	Authors notified about acceptance/rejection of abstracts.
September 1, 2014:	Submission of full length manuscripts to the editors.
December 1, 2014:	Reviewers’ comments relayed to the authors.
January 15, 2015:	Revised manuscripts returned to the editors.
Spring 2015:		Publication of the volume.
