Meeting Description:

This spring, the Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) will be hosting the first ever Conference of Central Asian Language and Linguistics (ConCALL) at Indiana University during the weekend of May 16 and 17, 2014. The conference theme is “Building a Bond: Strengthening the Central Asian Language Education Community.”

Keynote Speakers for the conference include:

Jaklin Kornfilt, Department of Linguistics, Syracuse University
Jorge Hankamer, Department of Linguistics, University of California, Santa Cruz
Chris Beckwith, Department of Central Eurasian Studies, Indiana University

There will also be a number of other ‘invited speakers’, selected among linguists working on Central Asian languages and linguistics.

2nd Call for Papers: 

Deadline extended until January 17, 2014

We are still accepting submissions for 20-minute paper presentations (with 10 minute post-presentation questions and discussion) on topics related to Central Asian languages and linguistics, including both the Altaic and Eastern Indo-European languages spoken in the region (among others), a diverse range of languages such as Azerbaijani, Dari, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Pashto, Persian, Tajiki, Tibetan, Turkish, Turkmen, Tuvan, Uyghur, Uzbek, and more! Presenters will have the opportunity to submit to the published proceedings of the conference.

Submission can include, but are not limited to:

- Formal linguistics (phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics, as well as their interfaces)
- Acquisition (first and second language acquisition)
- Language education/pedagogy, as related to Central Asian languages 

Submission should consist of an anonymous titled abstract of no more than 500 words (not including examples and references) in .pdf format sent as an email attachment to akkent at indiana.edu by the deadline of Friday, January 17, 2014.
