Job Title: 3 Tenure Track Positions - Dutch Research Consortium "Language in Interaction"
Job Rank: Researcher

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; General Linguistics; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics; Semantics

Description:

The Dutch NWO Gravitation consortium "Language in Interaction" invites applications for three tenure track positions. These positions are offered with a view to long-term embedding of interdisciplinary language research.

Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to establish their own independent research group. You will be expected to conduct research in one or more research areas relevant to the position applied for. Supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD projects will be part of your responsibilities. Administrative duties will include local and/or national committee memberships. Some contribution to teaching will be appreciated. You will be provided with budgetary resources, a PhD student or technician, materials and consumables.

The Netherlands has an outstanding track record in the language sciences. The Language in Interaction consortium brings together many of the excellent research groups in the Netherlands in a research programme on the foundations of language.

The following positions are offered: Depending on the tenure track position applied for, the successful candidate will be appointed at one of the following partner institutes:

1) Neuropsychology of language and language disorders: The focus of this position is on the neuropsychology of language. The research group to be established should promote the interaction between clinical and pre-clinical researchers. This integration can be achieved using a varied set of methods, such as behavioural experimentation, functional neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG, MEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and formal computational modelling of language processes.

This position is equally shared by two research centres within the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, Radboud University Nijmegen.

2) Quantitative approaches to language processing and use: The focus of this position is on quantitative approaches to language, bridging gaps between various strands (experimental and descriptive) of research and on hosting new quantitative and data management techniques available in the human and life sciences.

The position will be embedded in the Centre for Language Studies and the Donders Institute at Radboud University Nijmegen.

3) Formal modelling of language in a semantic and/or computational direction: The focus of this position is on one of the major challenges in current research on the human language system: To unify formal modelling of crucial interactive linguistic activities, such as communication, learning and argumentation, with the wide-ranging experimental approaches to language found in psychology and neuroscience.

This position will be held at Institute for Logic, Language and Computation of the University of Amsterdam.

We are looking for highly motivated, creative and talented researchers with a strong research profile. Each tenure track position has its own requirements and profile.

General requirements for the tenure track positions are:
- A PhD degree in a field relevant to the position concerned;
- An established international reputation;
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed international publications;
- Experience with successfully applying for external funding;
- Experience with (co-)supervision of PhD students;
- Management skills required for academic leadership;
- Outstanding teaching skills, teaching experience, and a clear vision on teaching.

More information (including specific contact information for each position) on the three tenure track positions offered and how to apply can be found at the application URL below.
