Description:

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for a project on 'Presuppositions in Online Language Comprehension' (PI: Florian Schwarz), slated to be supported by the NSF (subject to final approval of funding). Building on previous work in our lab and elsewhere, the project  will use both behavioral measures and eye tracking (reading and visual world) to investigate the interpretation of presuppositions in online processing, e.g., in comparison to other types of content and with respect to their properties in embedding environments. The planned project start date is September 1st, 2014, and the project will run for a total of 3 years.

The Postdoc will initially be appointed for one year, with possible renewals throughout the remainder of the project period. International candidates are welcome to apply. The ideal candidate would have solid training in linguistic semantics and pragmatics, combined with experience in experimental work, and a PhD in Linguistics or a related discipline. Responsibilities of the postdoc will include taking charge of grant-related lab activities (including management of undergraduate RAs), contributing original research avenues, and collaborating in presenting and publishing results. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the project, there naturally will be opportunities for on-the-job training on the methods relevant to the grant.

Our lab, located in the Institute for Research in Cognitive Science at the University of Pennsylvania, is part of a lively research environment in linguistics and related disciplines, providing the postdoc with ample opportunity for interdisciplinary engagement and projects related to the grant.
