Abstract:

Eine natürliche Sprache ist eine spontane Ordnung; dabei ist sie weder
Naturphänomen noch Artefakt, sondern ein Phänomen der dritten Art. Ihr
gegenwärtiger Zustand ist – von wenigen Ausnahmen abgesehen –
unbeabsichtigter, unrefl ektierter Nebeneffekt von Wahlhandlungen der
einzelnen Sprecher im Zuge ihrer kommunikativen Bemühungen. Sprachwandel ist
damit ein prototypisches Beispiel soziokultureller Evolution. Die
Rekonstruktion des Wandels ist ein zentraler Baustein einer erklärenden
Theorie eines Sprachzustandes. Der ihr adäquate Modus ist die Erklärung
mittels der unsichtbaren Hand.
