Description:

The Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies (ILN) is one of seven departments at The Faculty of Humanities. The Department has approximately 160 employees working with research, teaching and dissemination. The areas of research and teaching include Scandinavian languages and literature, lexicography and onomastics, linguistics, rhetorics and communication, language technology and computing in the humanities, and Irish language and culture.

A permanent position as Associate Professor in Scandinavian Linguistics is available at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies, University of Oslo. For further information about the department, see the department URL above.

Duties:
Research in Scandinavian linguistics in the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies covers core areas of the discipline: grammar (morphology, syntax, semantics), phonology/phonetics, historical linguistics (including onomatology), sociolinguistics/dialectology. The position includes teaching in these areas.

The person appointed is expected to initiate and lead research in the core areas of Scandinavian linguistics, to supervise Ph.D. and MA candidates, to participate in teaching and exam settings and undertake administrative duties in accordance with applicable rules.

Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in linguistics with relevance to the disciplinary area or corresponding academic qualifications.
- Pedagogical skills and a willingness to take active part in academic leadership and administration.
- Documented teaching experience in the subject.
- Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
- The successful candidate must know Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, or learn Norwegian within the two first years in the position.

Salary and Conditions of Service:
- Salary level 57-64 (482 800 - 549 400 NOK per year, depending on qualifications).
- Possibility to apply for promotion to full professorship at a later stage.
