Meeting Description:

The objective of the International conference is to establish a forum for presenting the advances in the field of teaching foreign languages and intercultural communication and emphasize the contribution of innovations in FLT to the development of higher education.

Location:

Banská Bystrica is located in the heart of Slovakia. Nestled between three mountain ranges, it is a lovely city with a beautiful town square surrounded by historic buildings in the late-baroque architectural style. This city of roughly 80,000 citizens is home to Matej Bel University, one of the main universities in Slovakia. Matej Bel University was established in 1992, with the merger of two faculties and it has since grown to six faculties to include the Faculty of Economics, Law, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Education, and Natural Science. It is now an important member of higher education in Europe.

Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts for 20 minute presentations (15+5 discussion) to the following topics:

1. New Trends in Teaching Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes

New trends in teaching foreign languages for specific purposes have been a result of the influence of several factors – information and communication technologies, the place of FL in the curricula, learner centeredness and other factors. This section welcomes all kinds of trends enriching the LSP methodology portfolio.

2. Integration of Content-specific and Language Learning and Teaching

What is the state-of-art teaching the foreign language: foreign language, specific language, content based instruction - how much do our language programmes contribute to the developing of language proficiency? CLIL – Content and Language Integrated Learning approach poses many questions as to the proportion of content and language in a CLIL subject, its assessment, the role of subject specific and language teachers etc.

3. Intercultural Business Communication

What are current trends in intercultural communication in expanding international business? How do people from different cultures understand one another and work together efficiently? Talks should cover the best practices in dealing with intercultural issues in a culturally diverse environment, and innovation in intercultural management.

4. Research and Innovation in Curriculum

Rapid and constant transformation determines the dynamics in profiling of college and university curricula. This trend is further enhanced by the efforts to connect the academic background and practical business environment. The focus of this section is curriculum innovation affected by the current economic and social trends.
