Meeting Description:

The strong comparative tradition of South African Dutch studies comes to the fore in the theme of 2014.

The focus of this conference is the Dutch language and how it relates to other languages, cultures, disciplines, new media and tuition. One of the main aims is the teaching of Dutch as a foreign language (Nederlands als Vreemde Taal), but since the conference theme is 'Dutch in conversation with...', delegates are welcome to deliver a paper on any topic concerning Dutch and a combined interest. 

Venue and Registration:

The conference will be held at the Black Mountain Hotel (www.blackmountainhotel.co.za) which also offers accommodation during the event. Accommodation costs are estimated at ZAR 878 per night. The conference venue is located outside of Bloemfontein, the capital of the Orange Free State province.

The conference fee, also payable in South African Rand, will cost ZAR 1500. The congress fee will include teas and meals during the conference as well as the gala dinner.

Keynote Speakers:

The keynote speakers will be announced on the conference website by the 10 March 2014.

Language of Conference:

Though English contributions will be welcomed, the working languages of the conference will be Dutch and Afrikaans.

By 10 March, the abstracts of the keynote speakers, the programme structure as well as the registration documents will also be available on the conference webpage.

The theme is: “Dutch (Dutch language and literature) in discourse with ...”
