Effat University, Jeddah - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 

The Department of English and Translation at Effat University is pleased to
invite you to the historic city of Jeddah – a multicultural convergence
point for pilgrims, traders, academics and professionals.

The general aim of this interdisciplinary conference is to give the
opportunity to academics, professionals and researchers in the fields of
linguistics and translation to share their views and experiences about
issues related to the effect of language, literature, and translation
studies on local, regional and international cultures and ideologies.

Plenary Speakers:

We have the following eminent plenary speakers:

1. Professor Basil Hatim, American University of Sharjah, UAE
2. Professor Abdullah Shunnaq,  Head of the Translation Department, Faculty
of Arts, Yarmouk University
3. Dr Susan Hunston is Professor of English Language at the University of
Birmingham.

Call for Papers:

The Department of English and Translation at Effat University invites the
submission of papers for its 2nd Interdisciplinary Conference in
Linguistics, Literature, and Translation.

The conference will cover the following areas:

- Intertextuality of cultures
- Studies in historical comparative linguistics
- Comparative dialectology (English, Arabic, and other languages)
- Texts across cultures
- Technology and expression across disciplines
- Imagining and culture switching
- Media translation and technology
- Media translation and interpreting
- Mediation in translation and interpreting
- Anticipation in interpreting
- Cross-cultural issues in translation and interpreting
- Machine translation and multilingual processing
- Spoken language processing, understanding, generation and translation
- Role of languages in globalized contexts
- Language, identity and culture
- Problems of terminology
- Sociolinguistics
- Theoretical problems of cultural studies
- Language and culture: correlation, inter-relation, interaction
- Present state and perspectives of cultural studies
- Cultural peculiarities and translatability
- Language and culture convergence
- Studies in comparative literature
- Studies in Arabic, British, and American literature 

Abstract Submissions:

Abstracts should be 250 words in length and should be sent by email to Dr.
Luai Hayajneh at Lhayajneh at effatuniversity.edu.sa before 30 April, 2014. 

Abstracts should include the following:

- Title of the proposed paper
- First and family name of author(s)
- Institutional affiliation
- Current position/academic title
- Email address
- 250 words abstract
- At least 5 key words that best describe the subject area of your submission

Registration:

Early bird (by October 2014):  250SR   
Late registration: 350SR

Please note that registration is either online or at the door.

Papers Submissions:

All presenters are invited to submit papers based on their accepted
abstracts related to the conference topics as listed above. Paper length
should be at least 8 pages and should not exceed 12 pages (A4 size pages).
They should be written in Microsoft Office 2007, Times New Roman (12-font
size, Margins: 3cm left, 1 cm right, 2 cm top and bottom).

Requirements:

Papers should describe original work; they should emphasize completed work
rather than intended work, and should indicate clearly the state of
completion of the reported results. Wherever appropriate, concrete
evaluation results should be included. Submissions will be judged on
correctness, originality, technical strength, significance and relevance to
the conference, and interest to the attendees. 

A paper accepted for presentation at the LTCI, including LTCI-related
workshops and conferences, cannot be presented or have been presented at
any other meeting with publicly available published proceedings. Papers
that are being submitted to other conferences or workshops must indicate
this on the title page.
