Description:

Job description: The Department of English at Stockholm University wishes to employ a temporary lecturer in Semantics and/or Syntax. 

Main duties: The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in Semantics, Syntax, and possibly additional areas in English linguistics at the undergraduate and Master’s level, and to take part in developing course materials. The appointee is also expected to supervise student essays and theses within such fields.

Required qualifications: Applicants should have completed a PhD in a relevant field, such as English Linguistics. Completion of a course in university pedagogy (or equivalent) would be considered an advantage. Applicants should be able to document their teaching abilities and capacity to work with heterogeneous learner groups and students from different backgrounds. 

Assessment criteria: In the evaluation of candidates for this post, substantial weight will be given to the applicant’s teaching abilities and research activities. The candidate to be chosen is the one who is considered to possess the most evident capacity to carry out the duties of the position in question, as well as to contribute to the development of the Department. An excellent command of spoken and written English is a prerequisite for this post.

The successful candidate is expected to start on 1 August 2014 at the latest. Employment to this post is limited to a fixed term of one year, subject to extension by another year.
