Coordinating Institution: European Association for Language Testing and Assessment
Website: http://www.ealta.eu.org/events.htm

Dates: 28-Jul-2014 - 01-Aug-2014
Location: Siena, Italy

Focus: The aim is to address theoretical and practical underpinnings of classroom-based language assessment, an area of obvious importance, however often not given enough attention in teacher education.

The course will address the following topic areas:
- Introduction to educational assessment and language testing and assessment
- Developing and using different forms of language assessment in classrooms
- Assessment of language competences (skills)
- Assessment of language elements (grammar & vocabulary)
- Large scale assessment for learning
- The function of feedback
- Self- and peer-assessment
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate

Description:
The course aims to address graduate students, language teachers and teacher
educators, researchers, test writers, exam designers and policy makers,
administrators and school program planners who are responsible for language
assessment.

There will be a mixture of lectures, seminars and practical work, and
participants will therefore be asked to bring their own laptops. The course
does not require much experience or specialized knowledge in language testing
and assessment. A short questionnaire will be included in the application form
to make it possible to adapt the detailed planning of the course to the needs
of the participants.

We are very pleased that Professors Ildiko Csepes, Gudrun Erickson, James
Purpura and Dina Tsagari have generously accepted to be tutors in the 2014
Summer School.

The programme and the application form are available at the EALTA (European
Association for Language Testing and Assessment) website:
http://www.ealta.eu.org/events.htm.
