Description:

Starting September 1, 2014 the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) at Leiden University has a full time position available for an Assistant Professor (Universitair Docent) in Brazilian linguistics and language teaching, whose research should pay special attention to Brazilian Portuguese language variation in Latin America.

Tasks
- Teaching and developing courses in Brazilian linguistics and Brazilian Portuguese language acquisition in the department Latin American Studies and the BA International Studies.
- Participation in developing the linguistics curriculum of LUCL, and implementation of innovative concepts for language teaching.
- Research in Brazilian linguistics and supervision of BA, MA and PhD students.
- Participation in ongoing research at LUCL, acquisition of research grants at the national and European level.
- Managerial responsibilities inside and outside of the department (Latin American Studies) for Brazilian linguistics and and Brazilian Portuguese language teaching.

Requirements
- A PhD in Brazilian Portuguese linguistics.
- Experience with teaching Brazilian linguistics and Brazilian Portuguese language acquisition.
- Proven didactic qualities (teaching evaluations).
- An interest in and preferably experience with research-driven teaching.
- Excellent research qualities and an active research profile in the study of Brazilian Portuguese linguistics.
- Research experience in the study of Portuguese language variation in Latin America.
- Native or near native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
- Non-Dutch nationals are expected to fluently speak Dutch within two years after their appointment.

We offer
The position is for 1,0 fte as Universitair Docent for two years, with the possibility of an extension for two more years. The salary depends on qualifications and experience and is ranges from € 2.427, - to € 4.462, - per month (salary scale 10 or 11), commensurate with qualifications, with additional holiday and end-of-year bonuses.
