Meeting Description: 

This symposium is part of the joint Higher Education Academy (HEA) - Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) collaborative project on Interculturalism and Translating Cultures.
 
This symposium will bring together intercultural communication scholars, students and members of the public working on/interested in ethnic and linguistic minorities in the UK and beyond, primarily, though not exclusively, from a general sociolinguistic perspective. It will discuss practical tools and strategies of effectively feeding the latest research findings on the subject into learning and teaching in HE institutions across the country.

-Tools, resources and strategies for designing engaging sessions on the sociolinguistics of ethnic and linguistic minorities;
-Ethical issues in using research data (especially videorecordings) in class;
-Ways of benefiting voluntary organisations working with speakers of ethnic and linguistic minorities from current intercultural communication research;
-Other issues that arise in the morning presentations.
