Description:

The School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies (LCCS) has grown rapidly in recent years and now has over 1,000 EFTSL (8,000 course enrollments). It is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in Australia with 47 full-time academic staff. LCCS teaches Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to students in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the university-wide concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual degree programs.

At postgraduate level the School offers two NAATI-accredited Masters programs in Translation and Interpreting (one in Japanese and one in Chinese) and growing programs in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and TESOL. Staff research and supervise PhD students in these fields and also in Australian Aboriginal languages.

The School leads the Brisbane Universities Language Alliance which manages cross-institutional LOTE enrollments between UQ and the other two major Universities in south-east Queensland: the Queensland University of Technology, and Griffith University.

The role: Two outstanding linguists are required with leadership potential who will help strengthen and further develop the School's linguistic programs. The successful appointees will engage, as Lecturers, in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, undertake and contribute to further development of the School's Linguistic program, as well as research, service/engagement and other activities associated with the School.

1) Seeking an outstanding Lecturer in Linguistics with leadership potential and a specialisation in some aspect of Syntax or Morpho-syntax who will help strengthen and further develop the School's Linguistics program. 

2) Seeking an outstanding Lecturer in Linguistics with leadership potential and an ability to teach in Language Documentation and Field Linguistics, and at least one of Phonetics, Phonology, or Semantics, as well as general linguistics. 

The person: Applicants should possess either 1) a PhD in the area of Linguistics with a demonstrated ability to be able to develop and teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in Language Documentation and Field Linguistics, at least one of Phonetics, Phonology, or Semantics, as well as general linguistics; or 2) a PhD in the area of Linguistics with a specialisation in some aspect of Syntax or Morpho-syntax. Applicants should also have demonstrated expertise and experience in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as supervision at postgraduate level; and have a record of high quality research publications and successful grant applications.

Remuneration: The remuneration packages will be in the range AUD$83,904 - $99,636 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD$98,168 - $116,574 p.a.). These are full-time, continuing, academic appointments at Level B.
