Full time, 1 Year Fixed Term Appointment

The MARCS Institute, a research institute of the University of Western Sydney
(UWS), studies the scientific bases of human communication. Research at MARCS
is conducted in five interdisciplinary research programs: Speech & Language,
Music Cognition & Action, Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience,
Multisensory Processing, and Human Machine Interaction. MARCS is located on
the Bankstown, Campbelltown, Kingswood and Parramatta Campuses.

The Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre for Excellence for the Dynamics
of Language is a new cross-disciplinary research centre with researchers
dispersed across four participating universities (ANU, University of
Melbourne, University of Queensland and University of Western Sydney), as well
as numerous domestic and international partner institutions. The Centre is
seeking an outstanding researcher to complement and strengthen the Learning

will advance our knowledge of how infants, children and adults learn first

The successful applicant will work with Associate Professor Paola Escudero,
other Centre members, and community-based researchers to compare language
learning among English monolingual and multilingual immigrant communities. The
applicant will also participate in training of community research assistants
to promote community participation and to develop research products of value
to communities, and contribute to the education and outreach activities of the
Centre.

Applicants will need to submit a research and scholarly activity plan and
discuss this with Associate Professor Escudero prior to submitting an
application.

This is a full time appointment based at our Bankstown campus for a period of
one (1) year with the possibility of a once only, one year extension.

A current Working with Children Clearance is required.
