Description:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Laboratory of
Phonetics and Phonology - National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and
Sorbonne-Nouvelle University in Paris.

The position is for one year. The candidate will contribute to the
Volkswagenstiftung funded project Topiqq. A second-year appointment from a
different but related project is possible. A Ph.D. in Linguistics, Speech and
Hearing Sciences, or allied discipline is required. The applicant is expected
to have experience in laboratory techniques in speech production and
perception and strong interest in statistical modeling would be particularly
useful. The applicant is also required to have an excellent command of
English.

Topiqq (http://www.topiqq.uni-koeln.de) focuses on the identification of the
factors determining the placement and distribution of tonal events in a range
of languages that potentially present a challenge to current theories of tone
and intonation. The current appointment is concerned with Tashlhiyt, an
Amazigh (Berber) language known for allowing syllables, words and sentences
without vowels. The successful candidate will work closely with the project
investigators (Rachid Ridouane in collaboration with the team in Cologne
around Martine Grice) and will be involved in the phonetic analysis of tonal
placement in such forms through detailed acoustical, articulatory and
statistical analyses.

The position offers opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment that
includes faculty and students in Phonetics, Phonology, Psycholinguistics and
Engineering. Laboratory facilities include ultrasound, oral/nasal airflow,
Electropalatography, non-invasive photoglottography, EGG, and Qualisys mocap
system.
