Description:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics in the College of
Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University is looking for an individual who will
teach LIN 591 Second Language Acquisition in the spring 2015 semester Mondays
6:45pm – 9:30pm and/or LIN 421/621 Introduction to Methodology of Teaching
Languages: English / Foreign Language Teaching, Tues / Thurs 3.30pm – 4.50pm
in the spring 2015 semester (3 credits). Classes begin January 12, 2015. These
courses are available in spring 2015 due to a faculty leave of absence. All
offerings are dependent upon sufficient enrollment.

Course Descriptions

LIN 591: Survey of research on second-language acquisition; biological,
cognitive, effective, and social factors.

LIN 421/621: Topics include history and theories of language teaching; the
teaching of content (grammar, sound system, lexis, and pragmatics) and skills;
and assessment. Additional work required of graduate students

Qualifications

MA in Applied Linguistics / Linguistics / TESOL required. PhD (completed or
ABD) preferred.

Responsibilities

- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start
date.
- Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of
the course.
- Meeting all designated class periods.
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades
according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
