Description:

Linköping University, Sweden is looking to fill in a position of a PhD student in Speech and Language Pathology formally based at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKE).

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to working in education and administration up to 20 percent of full time. It will be the aim of this project to bring together the two traditions in phonetic description of disordered speech (the auditory and the instrumental). This will be accomplished by the recording of a corpus consisting of a wide range of types of disordered speech by the PhD candidate under guidance from the supervisors. The recordings will involve both audio recordings and the use of various types of speech imaging equipment already available to the researchers. The subsequent part of the research project will provide an alignment of the auditory and the instrumental descriptions to allow the development of sets of equivalences between the two approaches.

Requirements:
Only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies are qualified for PhD studentships. As a basic requirement for admission to the PhD program, applicants should have completed Master's level course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits should be at advanced level, or who in any other manner within or outside the country have essentially equivalent requirements. To be qualified, applicants should have a Master's level degree or equivalent in an area relevant to the research project such as Speech Language Pathology, Communication Disorders or Clinical Linguistics. The work includes recording and analyzing speech, so experience in phonetic transcription and instrumentation is desirable. Fluency in the English language is required.

Appointment time:
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period not exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training. Starting date is by agreement.

Salary:
The salary for PhD students is based on the department's salary scale.

Application Deadline: 01-Nov-2014
