Description:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at American University seeks to
fill a tenure-track position in Spanish and Latin American Studies at the
Assistant Professor level, to begin August 2015.

The Spanish Program within the Department of World Languages and Cultures at
American University is a vibrant program with growing needs in both literary
and cultural production as well as in Linguistics. While the field of
specialization is open in literary and cultural production, we are
particularly interested in Latin American Studies (Cultural Studies or

experimental approach to Second Language Acquisition, as well as in candidates

are seeking scholars who are committed to interdisciplinarity in their
scholarship and to an approach to teaching and mentoring that will prepare our
students for life in a diverse and rapidly changing global society. The Ph.D.
is required.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop a strong record of
scholarship. Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching upper
level undergraduate courses and courses at the graduate level. Candidates may
also teach advanced level language courses at times. Teaching load is two
courses per semester. The successful candidate will participate in advising
and mentoring students and as a reader of graduate-level examinations. She or
he will also be expected to provide service to the department, college and
university as needed.

recommendation and a letter of interest that describes the candidate's
research program, teaching experience, and teaching philosophy. Applicants
should also indicate whether they plan to attend the 2015 MLA convention.
