Position: Assistant Professor of Chinese Studies with a Specialization in
Chinese linguistics, literature, or culture studies

Effective Date: August 17, 2015 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. with specialization in Chinese linguistics, Chinese literature, or
Chinese culture studies, or official notification of completion of the
doctoral degree by August 1, 2015
- Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English;
- Demonstrated effectiveness for teaching and excellence in research,
scholarly and creative activities; 
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student
population

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Strong commitment to working in a foreign language program serving minors,
majors, and graduate students
- Demonstrated familiarity with modern pedagogies and methodologies of
teaching Chinese language at all levels, with at least two years experience
teaching Chinese language at the college level in the United States
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in upper division and graduate level
survey/content (non-language) courses related to specialty (Chinese
linguistics, Chinese literature, or Chinese culture studies)
- Experience and interest in the use of technology and development of hybrid
courses
- Publications in area of specialization or related field

Duties
- Teach and develop courses appropriate to disciplinary expertise and to the
specific academic assignment: language and survey courses at the
upper-division level in the area of specialization for the undergraduate and
graduate programs;
- Maintain an active research program and profile;
- Undertake grant writing and development projects that promote the
departmental mission;
- Collaborate in assessment planning and implementation;
- Advise study-abroad students going to China or Taiwan and participate in
study abroad activities;
- Outreach to neighboring high schools and community colleges about the
importance of Chinese language;  
- Provide service to department, college, university and community committees
as appropriate.

- A Student Success Statement about your teaching or other experiences,
successes, and challenges working with a diverse student population
(approximately one page)
- Letter of application addressing the minimum and desired/preferred
qualifications
- CV (including current email address and phone numbers)
- Three current letters of recommendation
- Copy of transcript from institution awarding highest degree
- Finalists will also be required to submit a signed SC-1 form, three current
letters of recommendation (if not already submitted) and an official
transcript (if not already submitted).
- Evidence of successful teaching (such as teaching evaluations or portfolio)
- Sample publication
