Workshop "Prosody: Information Structure, Grammar, Interaction"

Date: 19-Sep-2014 - 20-Sep-2014
Location: Trento, Italy
Contact: Manuela Moroni
Contact Email: manuela.moroni at unitn.it

Linguistic Field(s): Phonology

Subject Language(s): German (deu)
                     Italian (ita)

Meeting Description:

The workshop aims to bring together researchers from different theoretical
backgrounds in order to foster discussion on controversial matters while also
trying to pin down uncontroversial and common aspects. In current work on the
prosody of Italian and German a variety of approaches are being taken. Useful
insights can therefore be gained from an exchange between scholars
representing different frameworks. This may help not only to bring some order
into certain problems of prosodic description, but also to tackle basic issues
such as the role of prosody in the theory of language as a whole. The
presentations will focus especially on prosodic aspects of Italian and German,
but while these two languages will be mainly referred to, more general issues
of research on prosody such as its functions regarding information structure,
grammar and interaction will be discussed.
