Meeting Description:

AESLA is pleased to announce the 33rd Conference to be held at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), 16 to 18 April 2015.

Under the theme title this year: “Multimodal Communication in the 21st Century: Professional and Academic Challenges”, we intend to reflect on the influence of multimodality on knowledge, especially academic and professional, and on meaning construction from a variety of approaches and perspectives. 

The conference will host the following keynote speakers: 

- Charles Forceville (UVA)
- Francisco Ruiz de Mendoza (Universidad de La Rioja)
- Jorge Díaz-Cintas (University College London)
- Magali Paquot (Lovaine University)
- Joaquín Garrido (UCM)

2nd Call for Papers:

We encourage participants to explore and engage multimodal communication (visual, spoken, gestural, written, three-dimensional and others) from a wide variety of perspectives in applied linguistics: discourse analysis, pragmatics, translation, cognitive linguistics, genre analysis, LSP research, etc. in order to study how the configurations of modes contribute to meaning making.

We welcome proposals related to the areas covered by the ten thematic panels of our association, as well as those which focus on similar subjects related to this year’s theme.

The conference will cover the following areas:

- Language acquisition and learning
- Language teaching and curricular design
- Language for specific purposes
- Language psychology, child language acquisition and psycholinguistics
- Sociolinguistics
- Pragmatics
- Discourse analysis
- Corpus linguistics, computational linguistics and linguistic engineering
- Lexicology and lexicography
- Translation and Interpretation
- Interdisciplinary panels on technologies in linguistic research.

The list of panel directors and their contact details can be downloaded from http://aesla.uji.es/paneles.

Proposals, round tables or posters (which should not exceed 500 words excluding figures and references) must be submitted via the conference web page http://aesla2015.tucongreso.es/es/poster no later than 30 November 2014.

Authors will be notified as to whether their proposals have been accepted or rejected on or around 21 December 2014.

Authors who wish to publish full versions of their proposals (approximately 2,500 words including references) should submit their texts no later than 20 February 2015 (the text must follow the style sheet template available at http://aesla2011.tucongreso.es/esaesla2011-normas-estilo.

The official conference languages are Spanish and English.
