Description:

Applications are invited for a position at Associate Professor rank in modern
English language and linguistics in the Department of Language and Literature
at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim,
Norway. Applicants must have a completed doctorate in English linguistics
(which may include theoretical linguistics, psycholinguistics or
sociolinguistics, with a specialization in English), must demonstrate a strong
research record (relative to their career stage) and must be actively engaged
in research in a relevant area.

The person appointed will contribute to teaching and thesis supervision within
the BA and MA programs in English, including a 5-year MA teacher-training
program. S/he will be required to teach at all levels in the field of English
language and linguistics, including core areas of English linguistics at BA
level (phonology, morphology, syntax and global English) and courses within
his or her own specialization at MA / Ph.D-level. The Department is currently
expanding its web-based (distance learning) course offerings; the person
appointed may be asked to contribute to developing and teaching web-based
courses in English language and linguistics.

Research is done by the Department's English linguistics group in the
following areas: formal grammar (generative syntax) and semantics; language
and cognition; language acquisition; language processing; code-switching
(formal grammar, sociolinguistics); sociolinguistics (English varieties); and
translation studies. The Faculty of Humanities recently established a
prioritized research group ‘Language Complexity in the Individual and Society’
in the Department, in which several members of the English linguistics group
participate (LCIS, see http://www.ntnu.edu/lcis). Those who can contribute to
LCIS with their own research are especially encouraged to apply. Ability to
contribute to LCIS shall weigh in an applicant’s favor.
