Meeting Description:

Current Issues in Linguistic Variation: The 14th international conference of the department of linguistics
Thematic workshop: Syntactic Variation

As in the previous editions, the 14th international conference of the Department of Linguistics of the University of Bucharest, entitled ''Current Issues in Linguistic Variation'', aims to cover a wide range of topics, encompassing all the domains and directions of research in the study of Romanian and in general linguistics, bringing together a large number of researchers from Romania and from abroad.

Keynote Speakers:

Theresa Biberauer (University of Cambridge)
Ioana Chițoran (Université Paris 7, ''Denis Diderot'')

Registration fee: 40 Euro (or 150 RON); students: 20 Euro (or 75 RON). The registration fee can be paid upon arrival.

Furthermore, we organize the thematic workshop “Syntactic variation.”

Co-organiser: Jenneke van der Wal (University of Cambridge)

The papers to be presented in the workshop are hinted at theoretical, parametric, diachronic, and dialectal issues in syntactic variation. Since the workshop is co-organized with the University of Cambridge, the papers in the workshop will be mostly presented in English; hence, it is preferable that the abstracts are also submitted in English.

Keynote Speakers:

Roberta D'Alessandro (University of Leiden)
Adam Ledgeway (University of Cambridge)

Conference languages: Romanian, English, French

Call for Papers:

We encourage a wide range of different types of abstracts, including but not limited to the following:

- Morphology, syntax, phonetics, and phonology
- Pragmatics and stylistics
- Lexicology and lexicography, semantics, and terminology
- Historical linguistics, philology, and dialectology
- Teaching Romanian as a mother tongue and as a foreign language

Submitted abstracts should be 1 page in length. Please send abstracts no later than October 10, 2014 to: colocviu_lingvistica at yahoo.ro. For further inquiries, please contact Alexandru Nicolae (nicolae_bibi at yahoo.com) or Adina Dragomirescu (adina_drag at yahoo.com).

Notification of acceptance: October 15, 2014

The abstracts which are not accepted as oral presentations may be presented as posters.

Presentations will be scheduled for 30 minute slots (20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for questions).
