Description:

Open Rank Faculty Search
Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders
Michigan State University

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State
University (MSU) seeks to fill two faculty positions with individuals
committed to joining an outstanding program of research and teaching. These
positions are in the tenure system and can be at Assistant, Associate, or Full
Professor rank. Qualifications of preferred candidates include a Ph.D. in
Communicative Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline (e.g. Psychology,
Linguistics) and distinguished scholarship with emphasis on basic or clinical
research in speech-language-swallow disorders. Clinical certification
(CCC-SLP) is highly desirable but not required. Candidates must demonstrate
success (or the promise of success) in obtaining external support for their
research and the potential for multidisciplinary collaboration. All qualified
candidates and specialties will be considered, particularly those with
experience in and including (but not limited to) Autism, Aging, Adult
Neurogenic Disorders, Dysphagia, and Motor Speech Disorders.

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders has been growing
rapidly for the past few years and has made significant investments in its
research and graduate programs. The department includes 8 research
laboratories, funded by 10 federal research awards (NIH, NSF, Air Force Office
for Scientific Research), and has five endowments to support student and
faculty development. The department has recently updated its graduate programs
(MA and PhD) in terms of their content as well as the delivery to achieve
better learning outcomes for its students. As part of its growth and
restructuring, the department has added three tenure-system faculty to its
ranks in the last two years and is seeking to add two more exceptional
scientists to its faculty. The ideal candidates will bring a high level of
energy, innovative research with a strong potential for external funding, a
culture of collaboration within and outside the discipline and a dedication to
graduate education. Candidates with strong ties to the industry, government,
public service, NGOs, or with an interest in international research and
education are strongly encouraged to apply.

To apply for these positions, please refer to posting #0009 and complete an
electronic submission at the Michigan State University Employment
Opportunities website https://jobs.msu.edu. Applicants should submit
electronically a cover letter summarizing qualifications for the position, a
vita, and the names and email addresses of three references. Please direct
inquiries about these positions to Dr. Eric Hunter, Search Committee Chair
(phone and email below). The search committee will begin its evaluation of
applicants Oct. 15, 2014, and will continue until an exceptional candidate is
selected.

Inquiries for cluster hires are encouraged and can be addressed directly to
the Department Chair, Dr. Rahul Shrivastav (phone: 517-884-2258; email:
rahul at msu.edu).

MSU is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. MSU is committed to
achieving excellence through cultural diversity. The university actively
encourages applications and/or nominations of women, persons of color,
veterans and persons with disabilities.
