Call Deadline: 10-Jun-2015

Meeting Description:

Language enables all cultural and socio-economic development; paradoxically, this creates communication issues in modern multilingual/multicultural societies. With the conference theme, Promoting Language Education for Sustainable Development, echoing the overarching national concern to promote sustainable socio-economic development in Papua New Guinea, the LSPNG 2015 aims to stimulate a useful exchange of ideas between intellectuals and policy makers on language education and language-related issues.

The conference program will be posted on the LLM website by the end of April, 2015. Visit the Kivung Billboard www.langlxmelanesia.com/kivungbillboard.htm for more details.

Plenary Speakers:

- Prof. William Foley (University of Sydney, Australia)
- Prof. John M Clifton (University of North Dakota and SIL International, USA)
- Prof. Nick Faraclas (University of Puerto Rico)
- Mr. William Jonduo (National Literacy & Awareness Secretariat)
- Ms. Marianna Ellingson (Director General, Office of Tourism, Arts & Culture)
- James Agigo (Head of Research, Monitoriing & Evaluation Division, DoE)

2nd Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts (maximum 300 words), so that the LSPNG Conference Program can be properly planned and arranged in cohesive sessions.

While papers on any subject dealing with topics in Melanesian language and linguistics are invited, preference will be given to those pertaining to language and its role in society.

Abstracts must be submitted electronically in Word format to langlxmelanesiagmail.com.
Authors will be notified of abstract acceptance within two weeks of the abstract submission deadline.
