 Spirit: Summer School on Negation / Göttingen, Germany

Dates: 14-Sep-2015 - 17-Sep-2015
Location: Göttingen, Germany

Focus: Linguistics in Göttingen (LinG) proudly announces a four-day summer school on negation, held in the surroundings of Göttingen. During this summer school, four tutorials (1,5 hour per day each) will be held, featuring four well-known teachers. In addition, there will be discussion seminars, sessions for student presentations and evening lectures (by, a.o. Markus Steinbach and Hedde Zeijlstra).

Minimum Education Level: MA

Special Qualifications:
The school is intended for 20-25 PhD students and postdocs, working on, or interested in the topic.

Description:
Teachers and classes:

- Cleo Condoravdi (Stanford) – Semantics of Negation and Negative Changes

- Roland Pfau (Amsterdam) – Negation in Sign Language

- Cecilia Poletto (Frankfurt) – Syntax and Cross-Linguistic Variation of Negation

- Rosalind Thornton (Melbourne) – Acquisition and Other Psycholinguistic Aspects of Negation

The school will be followed by by an international workshop on negation where every school participant is invited to hold a (poster) presentation.

Tuition: 0 EUR

Tuition Explanation: The school has no fee, and all lodging and meals will be provided for free as well. Traveling costs will in principle not be reimbursed, though exceptions based on the participants’ backgrounds are possible.
