Description:

A one-semester position in linguistics for Spring 2016 (January through early May). Required: PhD in linguistics by time of appointment, as well as relevant teaching experience. (Applicants who are ABD at the time of application should identify the date of their defense in their letter of application.) The successful candidate will teach four courses in Spring 2016: 

- Two sections of Linguistics 305, the introductory linguistics course for English majors, 
- One section of Linguistics 312 (Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology), 
- A 400-level advanced topics course that complements other advanced undergraduate linguistics offerings.

These courses begin January 11 and end May 5, 2016 (grades are due May 10).

In addition to teaching effectively, the successful candidate would be expected to offer a minimum of three office hours per week for student consultation.  Although this is a short-term position, the Visiting Assistant Professor may request that a faculty member conduct a classroom observation. The observation report may be included in the Visiting Assistant Professor’s teaching portfolio to submit to future employers.

2. Curriculum vitae, containing the names and contact information for three references, at least one of whom should be able to speak to your teaching abilities. 
3. Transcripts of graduate studies (unofficial accepted) 
4. A portfolio of selected recent course materials, especially those that can demonstrate your ability to teach Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology and another advanced undergraduate course that complements current program offerings—for example, 
a. one or two sample syllabi, 
b. a description of a major course project, assignment, or unit plan,
c. some recent student evaluations of your teaching,
and/or a recent classroom teaching observation

document type in the title of each document (e.g., smith_coverletter.pdf).
