Research Assistant Professor in Linguistics (PR183/15-16)

The Department of English Language and Literature (ENG) invites applicants with one or more of the following specializations to apply: a) Sociolinguistics, b) Discourse Analysis, c) Language Teaching and Learning, and d) Formal Linguistics or a closely related field.  The appointee is expected to embark decisively upon research within his/her specialism and, in particular, to seek competitive funding from external sources, as well as to contribute to the existing and developing research strengths of the Master of Arts in Language Studies (MALS) programme and ENG.  (Please refer to http://eng.hkbu.edu.hk/people/academic-staff/ for the research strengths of the Department.)  In addition, he/she should be able to teach a range of courses (including both core and electives courses) across our various curricula.

The appointee is expected to be an active member in Department and Faculty-level administration, including (but not limited to) work in the areas of quality assurance and monitoring, curriculum design and maintenance, undergraduate and postgraduate student mentoring, and the supervision of undergraduate Honours Projects and postgraduate research.

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Linguistics or a closely related field. They should also be pursuing an active research programme, including published (or forthcoming) peer-reviewed books and articles in top-tier venues. A commitment to working in a multilingual and cross-cultural setting is essential.  

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2016.  Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Remuneration package includes retirement/gratuity benefits, annual leave, medical and dental scheme.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
