Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Focus: This course is meant for all international students interested in learning more about Dutch language, culture, history and society during their stay in Amsterdam.

Minimum Education Level: BA

Description:
This is your chance to learn basic Dutch in the Netherlands. Working interactively in our state-of-the-art digital language lab, you develop reasonable speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and build a core vocabulary and a grounding in Dutch grammar. In the classroom you work with
video, audio and computer tools – to simulate telephone conversations, for example.

But this is more than just a language course. You also learn about Dutch culture and society, and explore some of the highlights of the country’s history. What was so special about the famous Golden Age? Have the Dutch really always battled against the water? You also look at the stereotypes
associated with the Netherlands and its culture, and place them in an historical context. By the end of the course, some of your preconceived ideas – about “liberal” Dutch attitudes towards drugs, sexuality and immigration, for instance – might be in need of serious reconsideration!
