Language, Context And Society: Essays In Honour Of Adewale Bandele Adegbite

Professor Wale Adegbite, the internationally renowned linguist, will turn 60
in May, 2016. To celebrate this milestone, a book, tentatively entitled,
Language, Context and Society, is being planned. The book is proposed as an
ensemble of papers that speak to the professional engagement of Professor Wale
Adegbite in the fields of pragmatics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics,
stylistics, discourse analysis and psycholinguistics. The contributions are,
ultimately, expected to present a coordinated voice on the domain-based
contextual salience of linguistic elements in interactive encounters. To this
end, contributions should address issues covering the following (and/or other
allied) areas considered relevant to the scope of Professor Adegbite’s
research concern:

1. Current theoretic thinking in stylistics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics and
applied linguistics
2. The interface of language, context and society
3. Language and style in institutional and non-institutional contexts
4. Agency and goal in communicative encounters
5. Sexuality, gender and ideology in natural and mediated discourses
6. Language teaching and learning in the Nigerian context
7. Language policy, language death and language displacement
8. The discourse of academic writing
9. The discourse of Western/alternative medicine
10. The discourse of literature
11. The discourse of the media
12. Context and pragmatic communication in service encounters
13. The psycholinguistic properties of human communication
14. The English Language in Nigeria
15. Lexicographic documentations of English and Nigerian languages
16. Corpus linguistics and research in Africa
