Meeting Description:

We are pleased to announce that the Center of Teacher Development at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) and the English Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU), is to host the 2nd GDUFS-HKPU Multiliteracies Forum, to be held between May 18-20, 2015 at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou, China. 

The multiliteracies forum was initiated by GDUFS and the English Department of HKPU to develop multiliteracies competence of college English teachers, generate academic discussion about multiliteracies theories and practices in the context of teaching English as a second/foreign language, and raise the public awareness of multiliteracies-related issues. In the first forum held in June 2014 (http://francislow.wix.com/ml-workshop-2014), Professor Gunther Kress (London University), Professor Len Unsworth (Australian Catholic University), Dr. Viviane M. Heberle (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil), and a number of speakers from Hong Kong and mainland China have provided a multi-cultural and multi-perspective introduction into the historical development, recent trends, and classroom application of multiliteracies. Following on the first forum, the 2nd forum invites explorations on how to meet the rest of the world in practice and theory, with a theme on ‘Catching-up-with Mul
 tiliteracies in Education Across Disciplines’.

Call for Papers:

Proposals are invited for oral presentations (20 minutes, followed by a 10-minute discussion) on (but not limited in): 1) classroom multimodal discourse, 2) multimodality in textbook, 3) picture books, 4) visual literacies, 5) multiliteracies development, 6) assessment issues in multiliteracies, 7) digital technologies and education, 8) teaching materials and multimedia. 

Prospective authors are invited to submit an abstract (300 words, excluding references) to gdwyjspx at gdufs.edu.cn by March 20, 2015. The abstract, to be submitted as a .doc or .docx file, should also include the following information: (1) name(s) of author(s); (2) title; (3) institutional affiliation; (4) thematic area of the paper; and (5) email address of each presenter. Authors are limited to submitting two abstracts, i.e., a single-authored and a co-authored abstract, or two co-authored abstracts. Notifications of acceptance/rejection will be given by April 17, 2015.
