Meeting Description:

Main theme: Shaping realities in news reporting from Early Modern English to the dawn of the twentieth century.

Themes and sub-themes will include the following possibilities.

Socio-Historical Context:

- How can historical events be inferred from news discourse (for example, the positioning of newspapers vis-a-vis the major historical events of the period / How did newspapers discursively reflect the major historical events)?
- What was the role of news publications in the shaping of social and political circumstances?
- How do the different styles of news publication echo existing social settings?

Call for Papers:

We would like to invite presentations on news reporting from the Early Modern English to the dawn of the twentieth century, in a variety of approaches, ranging from more historical perspectives on different types of publications, to pragmatics and sociolinguistics studies, including applied linguistics.
