Digital Humanities and Language Resources / Leipzig, Germany

Host Institution: Universität Leipzig
Coordinating Institution: Universität Leipzig, Clarin-D
Website: http://www.culingtec.uni-leipzig.de/ESU_C_T

Dates: 27-Jul-2015 - 07-Aug-2015
Location: Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

Focus: "Digital Humanities and Language Resources" is the second "Culture and
Technology" Summer School organized jointly by the University of Leipzig and CLARIN-D.
Minimum Education Level: BA

Description:
As part of the growing Digital Humanities community the summer university seeks to bring together 60 (doctoral) students and (young) researchers from different disciplines in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Computer Sciences (and related areas) not only to learn together and from one another but also to build up networks across disciplines.

The program of the summer university will cover a broad spectrum of application or research oriented topics within the framework of Digital Humanities. The workshops range from courses in stylometry, digital editing, XML-TEI encoding, structuring and rendering, open Greek and Latin, spoken language and multimodal corpora, crowdsourcing and spatial analysis in the Humanities, Drupal and Digital Humanities projects, project management to a course on corpus annotation and corpus analysis.

Small groups foster communication among participants and workshop leaders and give room to address individual problems and questions. The educational program is supplemented by lectures of renowned researchers in the field of
Digital Humanities, and project presentations of participants.

If the educational program is the "brain" of the summer university, the social program is the "heart" providing ample chances for building networks which last longer than just the two weeks!
