Description:

Duties

- In close consultation with the Director of the CLC, the ESL Managing
Director designs and implements a wide range of programming and courses to
meet the needs of ESL students at the University 
- Collaborates closely with a variety of academic units to plan annual
offerings as well as customized ESL instruction as a component of other
programming 
- Hires, trains, and supervises instructors and tutors and other personnel 
- Teaches two courses or the equivalent (in workshops) 
- Plans and directs advertising for and promotion of the program in a variety
of media; markets the ESL offerings broadly through mailings, multimedia and
presence at professional meetings 
- Helps direct extra-curricular events 
- Generates content for and updates website to reflect current course
offerings and initiatives 
- Collaborates with CLC Director and directs staff to integrate all aspects of
the ESL program with extant administrative structure 
- Writes annual report summarizing the ESL program and recommends future
programming 
- Manages the ESL Program's revenues and expenses against budget, and
collaborates with the CLC Director with planning the ESL budget, including the
expansion of revenue-producing programming

Education 

- Master's degree required, preferably in ESL, SLA, TEFL, or Applied
Linguistics.   

Experience 

- Experience working with multimedia and/or data management required 
- Experience in higher education or a similar institute required 
- Experience teaching language courses in higher education required 

Experience working with budgets and managing finances strongly preferred   

Competencies 

- Strong administrative and project management skills 
- Budget management skills 
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
- Knowledge of at least one foreign language 
- Strong knowledge of course subject matter 
- Knowledge of instructional methodologies 
- Ability to develop curricula, lesson plans, assessment tools, and programs 
- Ability to teach in a manner consistent with the values of the Division and
University 
- Willingness and ability to work with a wide variety of individuals and units
- Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, students, and various
administrative offices at all levels within the University 
- Knowledge of research techniques or methods 
- Ability to develop demonstrations and/or manuals 
- Ability to design and construct relevant instructional materials 
- Ability to maintain confidentiality 
- Analytical skills 
- Problem-solving skills 
- Attention to detail 
- Organizational skills 
- Interpersonal skills 
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and
meet deadlines
