Learning how to distinguish countable as opposed to non-countable nouns in
English is often a big challenge for EFL learners. A Taiwanese student has
asked me if I could recommend a good book on this topic. I did some looking
around online, but only found web pages with mostly quite simple count vs.
non-count exercises for ESL learners, with a minimum of discussion on the
deeper differences between the two categories, or hints on how to easily
distinguish between them. I also found some technical linguistic works on
nouns and noun phrases, but these are not what this student seems to be after.

Can anybody recommend any useful works on English nouns and countability that
would be accessible to an L2 English learner? Please respond to me privately
at karchung at ntu.edu.tw and I'll summarize the responses if enough come in.

With greetings from chilly Taipei,
