Description:

The Department of Writing and Linguistics in the College of Liberal Arts and
Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for the tenure-track
position of Assistant Professor of Writing and Linguistics with a
specialization in TESOL/Applied Linguistics. This position has a central focus
in helping to build and sustain a unique new online graduate certificate
program in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (offered in close cooperation with the
College of Education), in addition to providing support for other Department
programs and activities. Georgia Southern University is a member institution
of the University System of Georgia and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research
University devoted to academic distinction in teaching, scholarship, and
service.

Position Description

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the
Assistant Professor of Writing and Linguistics requires teaching (both online
and face-to-face classes), advisement, research, and service. The position is
a 9-month tenure-track appointment typically teaching three courses per term,
and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Summer teaching is optional but available.

Required Qualifications

- Earned Ph.D. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Linguistics by August 1, 2015
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of
employment without assistance from the institution
- Scholarly agenda in the area of TESOL/Applied Linguistics
- At least one year of part-time college-level teaching experience (graduate
assistant teaching experience is permissible)

Preferred Qualifications

- Evidence of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level or two
or more years of college-level teaching
- Peer-reviewed publications in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or Linguistics
- Experience developing online programs and/or teaching online courses
- Expertise in second language acquisition theory and practice and/or interest
in phonology, semantics, and/or pragmatics
- Coursework and experience teaching first-year writing
- Experience teaching English in an international context, preferably outside
the U.S. and Anglophone Canada

position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2015. A

above; a curriculum vitae; a teaching philosophy highlighting innovative
pedagogical practice, engagement strategies, and a vision for teaching beyond
the traditional classroom; and the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and
