Description:

The Multilingual Technologies Research Lab/Language Technology Lab of the
German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is seeking to fill a
full time position with a Science and Research Manager in the areas of Machine
Translation, Multilingual Technologies, Natural Language Processing and Data
for a portfolio of large-scale and high-profile international collaborative
research projects. The position is located at DFKI Saarbrücken, Germany.

Science and Research Managers are professionals with a science and research
background that support project Principal Investigators (PIs) and Research
Teams in the proper management and discharge of research projects in order to
deliver world class research.

Responsibilities and capabilities will include:
- Adopt, develop and implement simple and efficient management procedures that
best support scientific excellence;
- Gain a thorough understanding of project goals and objectives as well as of
project resources; 
- Continuous project progress monitoring and reporting against project
resources, goals and objectives;
- Liaison and communication with diverse constituencies including research
teams as well as industry and public organisation partners in consortia across
Europe; 
- Organisation of meetings, public workshops and conferences together with
project partners and external collaborators;
- Monitoring and coordination of dissemination activities and external
communication, including outreach;
- Support of project communication infrastructure (including website);
- Assisting the PI in financial planning and management of project budgets;
- Assisting the PI in change management and conflict resolution;
- Support of project acquisition activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with lead scientific Principal
Investigators and Project Consortia in order to ensure successful project
delivery and acquisition.

Ideal candidates will
- Have a strong and verifiable track record in research (ideally at the level
of a PhD) in data-driven and machine-learning based approaches to machine
translation, natural language processing, multilingual technologies or
computer science;
- Be proactive, problem solvers, clear and independent thinkers;
- Have excellent organisational and management skills;
- Have excellent people and communication skills;
- Enjoy working with international research teams to deliver world class
science;
- Be highly articulate in both writing and oral presentations; 
- Have excellent proficiency of English as the project working language; good
proficiency of spoken and written German; additional languages are a plus;
- Be fluent with office and project management software;
- Have experience (2+ years) in administration and execution of European
projects in the above areas, ideally with established connections to key
figures in the field;
- Have experience (2+ years) in the organization of international events.

application have limited management experience, but have a genuine interest in

The position is open until filled. The initial contract will be for a duration
of 2-3 years. Successful candidates will be offered a competitive salary based
