Description:

Macquarie University is a workplace like no other. From our inception we have
crossed traditional boundaries. We developed the first electronic calculator
for people with vision impairment, wireless internet technology and the
Macquarie Dictionary. We were the first university in Australia to introduce
childcare on campus and the first to appoint a female Vice-Chancellor. 

The Department of Linguistics is one of the largest and most diverse
linguistics departments in Australia. In the recent ERA quality assurance in
research exercise, the Department was assessed as 'above world standard'. It
has an extensive PhD program and excellent postgraduate coursework programs in
Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Applied Linguistics, TESOL and
Translation & Interpreting, in addition to the highly regarded and
increasingly popular Bachelor of Speech, Hearing and Language Sciences degree.

The Department of Linguistics is currently seeking to appoint 3 academic staff
as Lecturers for the following positions:

- A continuing position and a 3 year fixed term position in the area of
phonetics and phonology;
- A continuing position with expertise in areas of linguistics such as
morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics or
psycholinguistics.

The successful applicants will:

- Contribute to the development of the Department through the generation of
research, teaching and scholarship 
- Contribute to the enhancement of student learning, personal development and
achievement 
- Contribute expertise in their discipline through undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and research student supervision where appropriate
- Participate in Departmental research teams and/or other collaborative
research initiatives 
- Actively seek research funding
- Assume various administrative tasks, responsibilities and other duties as
requested by the Head of Department including committee work and student
advising.

Selection Criteria: 

To be considered for a position, applicants must respond to the selection
criteria below and upload in a separate document during the application

Essential:

- A PhD or evidence of equivalent research recognition in a relevant
discipline 
- A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of good quality
publications relevant to stage of career. 
- Demonstrated academic knowledge in the discipline and a commitment and
capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the
design, delivery, and management of lectures, tutorials, and assessment
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to staff and
students from all backgrounds and to represent the Department to external
stakeholders and the general public
- Demonstrated experience to make a useful contribution to the academic life
and administrative tasks of the Department with a track record of effective
team work

Desirable:

- A demonstrated ability to attract external funding for research and a record
of competitive grant successes
- Experience and interest in interdisciplinary research

Salary Package: From $91,403 - $108,146 p.a. (Level B), plus 17% employer's
superannuation and annual leave loading
