Description:

The Department of Linguistics, University of Toronto (St. George Campus), invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream appointment in the area of Theoretical Syntax. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, and will begin on July 1, 2016.

Qualifications include a proven record of research in theoretical syntax, preferably with a secondary interest in fieldwork on an understudied language, corpora, or experimental work. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter.  Candidates must provide strong evidence of research of an internationally competitive calibre, as evidenced by publication in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, accolades or awards, and strong endorsements by referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching is demonstrated by a strong statement of teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments, and endorsements from referees.

Duties include teaching and supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels, maintaining an active research agenda, and participating in the academic life of the department.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applications should include a cover letter of no more than 2 single-spaced pages, a curriculum vitae, a research statement, evidence of teaching ability (including a statement of teaching philosophy), a writing sample, and the names and email addresses of three referees.
