The Faculty of Human Sciences is a combination of disciplines across 4 key areas of expertise - Education, Language, Health and the Mind.  The Faculty is home to a number of internationally recognised research centres conducting ground breaking research across our Departments of Education and Early Childhood, Linguistics, Psychology and Cognitive Science.

The Department of Cognitive Science carries out research, teaching and PhD supervision across a wide range of domains of cognitive science, including memory, language, belief formation, perception in action and reading. The Department hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders (CCD).

The CCD is a hub of research excellence in Australia for the study of cognition and cognitive disorders, with state-of-the-art research facilities, an unparalleled combination of outstanding Australian researchers and international partner investigators, and involving leading representatives from major industries and health organisations across Australia.  Our Centre brings together a wide range of backgrounds including Psychology, Linguistics, Speech Pathology, Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Philosophy, Audiology, and Experimental Phonetics/Laboratory Phonology. 

The Role

One position is available for an outstanding early career researcher to join the Language Program of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders (CCD). 
 
You will have expertise in the development of language and logic in typically developing children, and how language is impaired in children and adults with language disorders (e.g., Specific Language Impairment, aphasia). Preference may be given to applicants whose research interests intersect with those of current members of the Language Program.

To be considered for this role, applicants must address the selection criteria below and upload as a separate document in the application process.  

Essential

- Within 3 years of award of a PhD in linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, philosophy or a related discipline (or nearly completed by the time appointed) 
- A track record of research in language or belief formation
- The ability to collaborate successfully in a team
- Excellent communication skills
- A clear 3 year plan for your research program 
- Proven ability to publish in peer reviewed journals of a high standing

Desirable

- Established collaborations with researchers in areas of language or belief formation
- Evidence of successful applications to internal or external funding agencies

Salary Package: Academic Level A, Step 6 base salary from $83,344 to $89,320 p.a. plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading.
