Linguistic Field(s): Translation

Call Deadline: 15-Nov-2015

The Editors of this Special Issue of Language and Law/Linguagem e Direito
invite articles on all aspects of Translating and Interpreting in Legal
Contexts for a special issue to be published in July 2016. Within the area of
Legal Translation we are particularly interested in the legal problems created
when there are two or more languages of equal status as in Canada, Hong Kong
and the European Union as well as in those created when one judicial system
comes into contact with another as in cases of extradition. Articles on
translator training are also welcome. In the area of Legal Interpreting, we
are interested not only in mediated interactions in police stations, lawyers
offices, prisons and courtrooms, but also in the rights of non-native
speakers, as well as in the training of interpreters. But interpreting can
only proceed when it is permitted and in many countries a major task is still
that of informing legal professionals about the need for interpreters, of
training legal professionals how to work with interpreters and of convincing
politicians to fund an adequate system. Papers on any of these topics will be
welcomed. We accept articles in either of the journal's two main languages,
English and Portuguese.

Language and Law/Linguagem e Direito is completely electronic and freely
available for everyone to download from the journal website,
http://llld.linguisticaforense.pt/. Because Language and Law has no printing
costs it can be extremely flexible to individual author's requirements: not
only can it publish quickly all the high quality articles it receives, but
also it can cope with long appendices, reproduce illustrations, photographs
and tables in full colour, as well embed sound files and hyperlinks.

The deadline for submission of articles for this special issue is November
15th 2015 and all articles will be blind reviewed and returned to authors in
case of requested revisions by the end of February 2016.

Articles should be submitted by email to llldjournal at gmail.com formatted in MS
Word or Latex. Manuscripts vary in length, but they should normally be between
4.500 and 8,000 words long and be preceded by a 150 word abstract and up to 5
keywords. Articles should be submitted anonymously, with any self-citations in
the body of the text and the References anonymised to 'Author'. Authors should
indicate in the body of the accompanying e-mail their name, affiliation, and
their preferred contact email address. Articles submitted for publication
should not have been previously published nor simultaneously submitted for
publication elsewhere.

In submitting their article authors cede to the journal the right to publish
and republish it in the journal's two languages. However, copyright remains
with authors. Thus, if they wish to republish, they simply need to inform the
editors and acknowledge the journal as the original place of publication. More
information about the journal and detailed instructions to authors can be
found on the journal's website.
